Mr. Temesgen Gebreselassie Chirom

Founder and Managing Partner

Mr. Temesgen graduated from Addis Ababa University faculty of law with Bachelor’s of Laws (LLB) in 1995. Mr. Temesgen worked at the Federal Ministry of Justice from 1995 to 1998. Mr. Temesgen was then appointed as a Federal First Instance Court and then as High Court Judge from 1998 up to 2002. Finally, Mr. Temesgen resigned from his position and established his own law office in August 2002 with a first-grade license issued from the Ministry of Justice. Since August 2002, the law office has been rendering legal services to various individuals, national and international companies and nonprofit making organizations. Mr. Temesgen has also secured his Master of Leadership and Management in 2015. 

Mr. Temesgen has advised a wide range of corporations such as Oilibiya, Shell Ethiopia, China Railways Group, Tetratech, SGS, DH-GADA, International Organizations such as Compassion International, PADD, ZOA, DCA, GAIN, American Friends Service Committee, CORDIAD, and JICA, among others.

Mr. Semere Assefa

Deputy Managing Partner

Mr. Semere Assefa is a distinguished legal professional with an illustrious legal career spanning over three decades. He currently excels as the Deputy Managing Partner at LEGACY LAW FIRM LLP, a role that underscores his unwavering commitment to legal excellence. A distinguished alumnus of Addis Ababa University, he earned his LL.B. with Distinction—a foundation upon which his exemplary career has been built. Moreover, his passion for nurturing future legal talent shines through his tenure as a trainer and part-time lecturer at Debub University (now Hawassa University). Apart from his experience as a Public Prosecutor, his judicial experience extends to serving as a Justice at the former SNNPR Supreme Court.
Throughout his career, he has specialized in International Trade, Tax Laws, Employment Laws, Procedural Laws, Criminal Law, and Contracts, among others. He served as a part time legal counsel and consultant to many governmental organizations and private companies including Moha Soft Drinks Factory (PEPSI). Since 2001, he has been a practicing lawyer, representing clients in federal and regional courts. Additionally, he plays a significant role in Ethiopia’s financial sector as a board member of GOH BETOCH Bank, the country’s first privately owned mortgage bank.

Mr. Thomas Gebreab

Thomas Gebreab is a Senior Associate lawyer and Partner at Legacy Law Firm, bringing over twenty-five years of experience in litigation and dispute resolution. He earned his LL.B. as well as his LL.M. in Business Law and IT from Addis Ababa University, a highly respected institution for legal studies.

His judicial expertise is backed by his judicial services at the Federal High Court and upon obtaining his advocacy license, he extended his legal influence to private practice. Over the years, he has provided legal representation and consultancy services to numerous international companies, including Benvenuti & Brothers P.L.C, United Brothers P.L.C, OMEDAD, VIV Beverages s.co. and many others. A career built on excellence and trust; Thomas Gebreab remains an essential figure in Ethiopia’s legal landscape as well as our law firm.

Bitanya Ketema

Junior Legal Associate

Bitanya Ketema is a Junior Legal Associate at Legacy Law Firm, bringing impressive academic and practical achievements to the team. She graduated from Addis Ababa University with Very Great Distinction, demonstrating exceptional dedication to her legal studies.
During her time as a student, she earned recognition through her Certificate of Participation in the 43rd edition of the Jean-Pictet Competition (Concours Jean-Pictet) in Breden, Belgium, an esteemed international humanitarian law competition that hones advocacy and legal reasoning skills. Prior to her graduation, she gained practical experience through an externship program at the Ministry of Justice, further enriching her understanding of legal practice. Her strong educational background and early professional exposure set a solid foundation for her future contributions in the legal field

Hirko Alemu is Of Counsel at Legacy Law Firm, bringing a wealth of academic and professional expertise to the team.
He earned his law degree with Very Great Distinction from Addis Ababa University’s esteemed Law Faculty, demonstrating exceptional academic prowess. His scholarly journey continued with an LL.M. in Business Law, from the same university followed by another LL.M. in International Commercial Law at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Further enriching his multidisciplinary expertise, he also holds a B.A. in Business Management—a testament to his broad intellectual foundation. Currently, he is in the final stages of his doctoral studies as a Ph.D. candidate, solidifying his reputation as a distinguished legal scholar and thought leader in his field. With an extraordinary intellectual background, he serves as a lecturer at Addis Ababa University, imparting his knowledge to future legal professionals. As a law practitioner, he specializes in business and corporate law, as well as regulatory compliance, leveraging nearly seven years of experience to provide invaluable insights to clients and the firm. His combination of academic excellence and practical expertise makes him an indispensable asset in navigating complex legal matters.
